Urban Strategies Postgraduate Program

Mission Statement

Urban Strategies, addressing the city as the central field of action in today‘s production of architecture, concerns the present as well as the future. Strategies, in this context, refer to the synthesis of research, design, and intervention. The only legitimate basis from which projects can be developed and argued for, is the diagrammatic modeling of the context. Special attention should be directed at the examination of habitual patterns of one’s own behavior and judgment. Only then it is possible to turn the forces of urban reality, specifically their economic and technological impact, into fertile ground for project work. Closely connected with these analytical reflections is the development and review of new models and patterns of urban organization (the city and buildings as elements of a non-linear continuum of events). The program is designed to offer guidance towards independence through an open and intensive discourse, which, as a matter of principle, puts everything up for discussion. In this, the objects of investigation and negotiation are patterns of public activity and behavior as well as private role models and attitudes.
